In that case you haven’t really woken up – you’re SLEEPWALKING!

The most important thing to learn in any business, regardless if you’re just starting out or if you’re a 50 year veteran is:

Goal Setting

Not in your head – written down!

It’s the sure fire way to make sure you’re on the right track. A healthy combination of your business commitments and working ON YOUR BUSINESS is an absolute must. Far too often business owners get drawn into the day to day slog, going through the motions of client work with no direction or long term goal.

Growth doesn’t just need to be business size or earnings related:

  • Do you want more free time?

  • Do you want to delegate things better?

  • Maybe you have an exit strategy?

The absolute best thing you can do is to get a coach to combat the fog. Someone to hold you accountable for your actions, someone that forces you to take a step back and evaluate where you’re going and what you want to ultimately achieve.

The next best thing is to write it down
(something any good coach will tell you to do anyway):

1. Start by taking that step back I mentioned. Find somewhere quiet without distraction, grab a pen and paper and really think about your business, what you think of it at the moment and where you want it to be. It’s not a one minute job either… Often what you initially think you want isn’t actually the case. It’s because you haven’t taken the quiet time out before (or in a long time) to really delve deep into it. Write down everything that’s in your head.

2. Once you’re there it becomes about the goal setting. How much time you delegate to it can be at the mercy of how busy and involved you are in your day to day running. I personally have around a 50/50 split between ON my business and IN my business. I love what I do, but I’ve got to keep on track with where things are going if I want to grow the right way. Set your goals out clearly.

3. Now that you’ve set your goals you need to break it down and decide how much you can do each week. You have to be realistic based on your commitments mentioned in the previous step but you also need to be aggressive in your commitment or it won’t get done. I recommend 3 to 5 broken down tasks per week.

4. Take action every week! (the hardest part).

Think About It…

Even just 3 tasks per week is around 150 tasks per year. One hundred and fifty tasks ahead on moving your business forward instead of:

“I keep meaning to do something about that but keep putting it off”
